We held our session on menstrual hygiene with a focus on menstrual cups in the Management Girls Hostel at the University of Lucknow. Some were familiar with the concept but did not have such a detailed understanding. Some accepted it, some rejected it and some kept the knowledge for the future use. Nevertheless, we have made them aware enough to atleast consider the use menstrual cups in their future to better manage their menstrual cycles.
There is a learning curve for everything, whether it is riding a bike, learning to put the eye lens on everyday or inserting the menstrual cup. This is the hardest thing to convey in our seminars. There is an initial fear, a resistance and an immense hesitation with the use of menstrual cups. People can overlook these only if there is an internal motivation for reducing our carbon footprint and if we truly understand the benefits of the menstrual cups. This is the message we are trying to convey in our seminars so that we can internally motivate our audience and make them consider switching. Wherever we go, we find that some people from the audience have always heard of the menstrual cups but a comprehensive list of benefits is not presented to them initially. In our seminars, we provide each and everyone with a packet of a “Guide to the menstrual cups” so that they all know where to find the information if they do not have access to it. If you would like this, please contact us. We are working on publishing it online soon.
